Wilmington, DE 1/21/2014. The Occidental Grand Aruba, a 414 room deluxe beachfront all-inclusive resort located in Palm Beach, Aruba is our the 7th completed installation of the ECOSYSTEM occupancy based HVAC control solution as a part of the Spanish based Occidental Hotel Group’s corporate mandate to address energy use. The installation contract was awarded to Conectric’s Cancun, Mexico based network provider ESYS Energy Controls.

The ECOSYSTEM energy automation system was integrated with the hotels air conditioning to better manage unnecessary cooling while guests are often out of their rooms enjoying the resorts many all-inclusive amenities and the surrounding island attractions. The installation included wireless PIR occupancy and door monitoring sensors including balcony doors. Due to the 24 hour operational nature of this all-inclusive resort and year round air conditioning loads this efficiency measure has a projected annual reduction of over 1 million kWh's and 800 metric tons of CO². The high cost of energy in Aruba led to a projected total Return On Investment (ROI) in under 12 months.

According, to Alberto Escolar, the Corporate Director of Purchasing for Occidental Hotels LAC “We are committed to energy efficiency as part of our corporate operational plan. Because most of our properties are located in Latin America and the Caribbean, air conditioning is one of our largest expenses. Before installing ECOSYSTEM this was largely uncontrolled. We are now monitoring the properties energy use closely and substantial reductions are already being seen in Aruba.”

ESYS Energy Controls President and Conectric Co-Founder Demetrio Tessada commented that “the Aruba Project will be a great showcase for hotel energy automation. This can really benefit the region and we are excited about the potential market.”
